Images from Poland

Warrington District Camera Club, UK, since September 1996 has been twinned with a photographic club in the city of Lodz, in central Poland. Images have been exchanged and an exhibition in Warrington libraries (Birchwood / Penketh - Jan-March 1997) has been presented. Images are exchanged at regular intervals.

The idea to bring together the two clubs came from conversations in September 1996 between Chris Roxby, treasurer of WDCC and Krystof Jozwiak from Lodz who was visiting relatives in Warrington. "The Lodz club is quite young, informal and has a wide range of members with many varied interests. Because they sounded so similar to ourselves, we were keen to form a link. The first step was to exchange a number of prints to introduce ourselves. We were very surprised by the quality, imagination and variety of the images. Many reflect the Christian and re-constructionist outlook in Poland after so many years of communist rule. This makes them very different from the type of images seen in camera clubs in the UK. We are proud to be linked in this way."

The arrival of the images have been an inspiration to a lot of WDCC members and other local photographers. In the near future it is planned to exchange a video combining slide images and footage of typical club activities. The initial contributing photographers from Lodz were :-

ADAM, MICHAL BUDZYNSKY, TOMASZ FERENC, ANDRZEJ GRABOWSKI, KRZYSTOF JOZWIAK, SZYMON KLUZ, PIOTR KWIATKOWSKI, MICHAL MEDASIK, MONIKA SCHMIDT, MARIUS WASILEWSKI
