Digital Cameras are increasingly becoming widely available at value for money prices and with quality images to rival conventional film.
Many of our members are changing to digital or are supplementing their film cameras with digital compacts and SLRs. Members now own a variety of equipment from Olympus, Fujifilm, Nikon, Canon and Sony.
Generally our members share knowledge and experience to enable newcomers to digital to make the most of what is generally feature packed equipment. Several nights throughout the programme are dedicated to digital subjects and most nights are planned to provide techniques and subjects of interest to both types of photographers. If you have just purchased a new (or used) digicam, then chances are that one or more of our members can offer advice about its functions and getting the most from it.
If you have queries about digital imaging, JPG compression, battery life, getting your images printed (using home printers or locally) or enlarged, using images on websites or in emails, then WDCC can help provide some of these answers for you.
Once your images have been taken, we have members who are skilled in PC software for editing and improving your digital images on windows or Apple Mac. Members can advise on the use of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, Paintshop Pro and a number of other packages. Alternatively, if photographers are on a budget, then Microsoft Photo Editor can provide enough power to resize for printing, turn images to Black and White or perform simple image improvements.
When it comes to digital imaging, WDCC do not descriminate between it and 'traditional photography'. Competitions are open to all photographers of all levels.
The club can also provide help and advice about archiving your images, what papers and inks people have found successful, and you can gain insight into what equipment and software our members find useful (or would avoid!) on a daily basis.
Members can also submit digital images for our members gallery and so can share your inspiration with anyone who can access the internet!

Outside lecturers are selected wherever possible to provide impartial but positive comments. Many members have had success in other regional and national competitions with digital images, information for which is available at club nights throughout the year.
Members are encouraged to improve their technique for their own satisfaction, whatever their particular interest might be. E.G. Landscapes, Portraits, recording another hobby, Still-life or a mixture of subjects. Members are encouraged to bring their work into club nights for positive comments. A number of ‘studio’ nights are included in the programme each year. These are selected to give everyone a chance to use their cameras, usually using the club lighting equipment and backgrounds.
Recent studio subjects have recently included a falconer (together with game birds), belly dancer, clown (complete with rabbit), punk rockers and a night club singer. In most cases, the subjects appreciate some prints or enlargements from the session and members are encouraged to bring a few prints in to be passed on.
Meetings of the Warrington Camera Club are held at the Grappenhall Community Centre in Bellhouse Lane, Grappenhall, Warrington. The first floor room is adjacent to a CAMRA real ale award winning subsidised bar (to which we generally retire after meetings (around 9.45pm)). The bar also has a wide selection of wines and non-alcoholic drinks too!

The club has close links with other voluntary groups in the community and have been involved with the Warrington woman’s action group, Warrington YMCA night shelter, the annual Disabled Awareness Day (DAD), Warrington Collegiate, The North West Wheelchair tennis association, Warrington athletics club and the I-Witness theatre group among many others. These links offer our members a mix of potential photographic opportunities and (by passing images back), return something to the community.
Studio lighting and flash meter, 30 day Photoshop trial CD, Printer calibration software for digital imaging, darkroom equipment, print coloration/toning kit, slide projector, instructional videos & other items are available for members use/free hire.
Discounts on certain items (E.g. 10% on film, CDRs, inkjet paper etc.) has been negotiated locally and is available on producing a valid, current membership card.
