Warrington Winter Night Shelter Project | ||||||||||||
A community project undertaken in the Winter of 1995. The culmination was an exhibition held in Warrington. | (1)  | Do you ever buy the 'Big Issue'? Do you ever wonder about the vendor? Ever look them in the eye? Wonder where they live? How your 90p or a pound helps? Back in 1995 where I lived in Warrington, the local county council would not authorise its sale. Therefore nobody saw anyone selling it on the streets. Easy for everyone to assume there is no homelessness problem. | ||||||||||
(2)  | Gary has never really had a job. He drifts from scheme to scheme, crime has led to a few stretches in detention centres. "Where the hope? Where am I going? What's the point? Who cares" | |||||||||||
There are plenty of homeless in Cheshire. Some have family problems, drug & alcohol addictions. Others learning difficulties, mental problems or just plain opportunists. Some are climbing out of homelessness. Tex on the right now has his own sheltered flat. Colin, less lucky, easily led, he drifts from detention centre to detention centre. They have both slept rough under railway arches & derelict buildings. | (3)  | |||||||||||
(4)  | Paul sleeps outside when he can. It's too 'silent' inside. Too disturbingly quiet to sleep. He has mental health problems, but doesn't always take his medication. Paul swings from deep joy to deep depression. | |||||||||||
