Qubis

Qubis were formed in January 2000, when Rebecca Whitfield was on the lookout for musicians to form a band. Her intention was to tailor a sound suited to her own original songs.Robble Patton had been playing lead guitar for a couple of years when he met Rebecca, and liked her material enough to share her vision. After a couple of false starts with different musicians, Rebecca and Robbie finally teamed up with Gary on drums, and Richard on bass. Qubis were born.

The origin of the name Qubis is a closely guarded secret, but is a banner name with which all four members of the band identify, with passion and excellence in their craft. Playing gigs around Merseyside and Manchester, Qubis have honed their skills playing to live audiences, and have consistently put other bands playing on the same bill in the shade. At the same time as playing live gigs, Qubis have been consistent in their practise and recording sessions at Glass Studios in Birkenhead, under the watchful eye of their manager, and owner of the studio, Alan Lewls, and producer, Marty Bresnen. Always perfectionists, Qubis are their own fiercest critics, and the technical quality of their sound is always given as much priority as their considerable artistic and creative performance. Qubis have achieved a level of originality across a spectrum of sounds, from ballads to rock which is lively and, 'off the wall', and have the ability to influence the music scene for some time to come. Theirs is intelligent music, for thinking people, who want meaningful lyrics as well as a credible sound, which explores new ways of putting a song together, from the first penning, to the final performance. This, then is Qubis. Rebeeca Whitfield Singer / songwriter, rhythm guitar and founder member of Qubis. Rebecca has been playing piano, guitar, and singing for ten years, and has a portfolio of over four hundred songs' Before founding the band, she sang with a choir that toured Barcelona, using two of her songs as part of their programme. Solo performances followed, before she decided to change direction and front a band to perform her own original material. Her influences include many sounds from the nineties, but her inspiration comes from within. Robbie Patton Lead guitar and vocals. Robble started playing guitar originally, to enable him to write songs, which he does well, but somehow got side tracked, and after teaming up with Rebecca, decided to give his all to lead guitar with Qubis. His favourite bands and influences include Radiohead, Placebo, Duran Duran, and David Bowie. Gary Elliott Drummer. Gary joined the band in November 200 1, linking up again with Richard and Robbie, with whom he had worked previously on another musical project. He has played in several different bands, of varying musical styles, and has played gigs in some big places, and a lot of small ones, but always enjoys the buzz it gives. Gary plays a Premier Resonator drum kit, to great effect, and together with Richard on bass, forms the rhythm section of the band. Richard Owen Roberts Bass guitar. Bass player for Qubis since November 2001, Richard completes the most talented line up the band have enjoyed since day one. Richard provides strong, melodic and sometimes unpredictablebass lines for the band to build upon with a style that is as unique as Qubis are.
