Icon

Burnley band 'Icon' were tonights warm up for the return of Depon Eye and The Lounge Kings to the Rec. Wot no drummer?? Well, they didn't really need one luckily, they had brought along the 'Zoom RT-1000'! The tracks Hope and Blind kicked off the set with the animated Burnley rockers. The guitarists ginger mane banging well to the beat. Worryingly throughout the set the lead singers arms kept reaching to the skies at least a dozen times before we stopped counting. A great little device, but slightly overused here! Bark, Exit and Stand all followed the pounding rock theme with quite a crowd forming to urge the band on. Fix rounded off the set which was a cracking opener for the night.

I.C.O.N. have been around for a while, fuelled by Jimmy Page Riffs, Iron Maiden and the sabs. They have done their fair share of Biker Rallies and the annual outdoor ‘Bands in the Park’ festival in Burnley. If you can get hold of it, checkout the ICONROCK EP, which picked up a cracking review in Metal Hammer magazine. For up to date info checkout www.iconrock.co.uk

Depon Eye

A polished Depon Eye were back at the Rec tonight with some new tracks and a record deal practically under their belt. The Illusion and Bring me Down kicked off this set, that can only be described as faultless. Some new tracks, soon to be the Depon Eye demo showed a mellower side to Roy and the lads (the lighters were indeed out and waving!). Broken, Safety Net and Tick Tock brought some familier ground to the crowd, many of which had on the Depon Eye T-Shirts purchased on one of the many past visits here. The six 'P's and the ever brilliant 'Unwanted', 'Change The Record' and 'Anger Management 101' all came across better than ever. The whole band looked more relaxed, and DeponEye were definitely the nights greatest crowd pleaser. Whether it was 'Out Til Three' or 'Insane FM' drove some dipstick to adjust the bog plumbing to recreate the final scenes of 'Titanic' (Shurely Shome Mishtake... Not... My Heart Will Go On) we will never know.

Depon Eye are Roy on vocals/guitar, Alex on bass/vocals, Pete on drums and Mick on keyboards. In recent months the band have gotton on to Radion 1's One music website and the new music management is really bringing results.

The Lounge Kings

A little late on and suffering from a wet ice rink like stage it was not surprising that The Lounge Kings were moving a bit less than usual! With some new material to air, demo material to boot, the band came over somewhat more mellow to how we have become accustomed. A slightly new feel to the band as we slid into Words In Silence and States of Confusion. Unfortunately a massive crowd prescence was sadly absent as the Lounge Kings gave us a rich new sound, not so rocky, but no worse for that. Animal, Tracks and OK came thick and fast. Liquid Blossom rounded off the set. Good luck with the demo and get back here soon!

The LoungeKings are Jamie, Jon, Jim and on vocals Shane. The band have been together from 2000. In Nov 2003 the Kings opened for The Vessels at Mansfield Town Mill, and since then the band has been writing a new set of material and are in the midst of recording new tracks with producer Paul Hopkinson at The Foundry Studio in Chesterfield.
