Away From Home

First up 'Away From Home'. One of the most visually exciting bands of the night and the treat (get those lighters ready!!) of an unplugged track too! Based around Runcorn/Widnes, this 4 piece have been together a year and a half so far to hone their emo style. Away From Home are Jack Chapman (vocals + guitar), Ste Chapman (drums), Josh Evans (bass) and Martin (lead). Recent gigs have included The Boardwalk Sheffield, The Queens Hall Widnes, The Ring o' Bells Widnes, The Wellington Inn Widnes, The Zoobar Halifax, The Deva / Mail Club Chester.

The Owls

Dave Speakmans new band now based in Manchester. The set kicked off with 'Leave This City' and 'She Knows Why' which revealed a lot of Baaja's funk rhythms were now dropped. 'Just To Bring Me Down' , 'Passing By' and 'Something Happened To You' all seemed to go over the heads of the audience. Dave Speakman lit up a tab and played on regardless. By the time of the last track 'wisdom' The Owls unfortunately almost left the stage without a ripple of applause.
The Owls are suited more to The Manchester Band on The Wall I think. No problem with the material, but this stuff needs the right crowd and venue.

Saving Grace

Sales of CD's were hotting up for local favourites 'Saving Grace' at their corner concession stand in the interim before climbing on stage as the final act of the night. With a new bass player and some new tracks, Saving Grace were the class act of the night. Tracks from the night included the unmistakable and easily sing-a-longable sin sintido and more of the tracks from the excellent 'Life Isn't Dead' EP CD. The title track, destiny under attack and 'Told You So' also deserve honourable mentions. The manchester Whiplash studio recorded EP was laid down earlier this year. Saving Grace, now based in Manchester are managed by DLA Management and have a few dozen gigs under their belt around the city at venues like Old Pint Pot, Salford, The Attic, The Farmers Arms. Bolton, The Night + Day Cafe, Manchester and Satans Hollow, Manchester.
