Local Ellesmere Port Cheshire lads Gortama knocked out some good original material and some crowd pleasing covers. Uber Funk brought some down and dirty jazz rhythms to the party. Rounded off in good fashion by Barbara Rucksack, just getting better and slicker every gig! Hold tight and check this lot out... |

Opening with 'Torn To Pieces', 'All for 1' and 'Heaven on Earth', we got off to a good start. Some great visuals from the three members of the band into a few more original tracks and some nicely done covers. 'City of Angels', 'Perfect World' (and the often covered Nirvana track) 'Aneurysm' followed. Nice to see some moshing going on to spur the band on through 'Black Rose', 'Death' and to finish 'Rejection'. Gortama need a few more gigs to cut their teeth on, and a few more original tracks will add that final sparkle. Gortama are:- Adam Graves - Vocals/Bass, Ben Corker - Drums, James Clarkson - Guitar Checkout Gortama's website for more gigs. Gortama from Aug 2003 Back 2 Site Map |

To be more precise, cross Grown at Home with Miles Davies, add some Jimmy Page, then hand-blend to taste. Brilliant! This lot have definitely thought about this, before just plugging in. Opening with original material, then into 'spies', 'ArabFunk', and 'Speciale'. 'Marmalade' and 'Uber Maiden Cheese' completed this 'refreshing change of a set'. The band would go down a treat at the 'Band on The Wall' at a Jazz-Funk fusion gig. Back 2 Site Map |

Punk ska stalwarts Barbara Rucksack always go down well at the Rec and tonight was no exception. Sweaty moshers in the pit, forever tipped for glory, Barbara Rucksacks year must have finally come. The punk riffs and Ska undertones went down well, 'Drop D' and 'The Dept' the most outstanding tracks. Full marks and an encore. One more track would have slotted in nicely, but we can all wait til next time. Hopefully not too long to wait! In the meantime track down 'Kill Your Management' from the Psychophonic Records website. Barbara Rucksack April 2003 Barbara Rucksack 26th Sep 2003 gig |
