Forthcoming gigs at the Rec' :-

We had Depon Eye to thank for tonights impressive line up of Rock bands from as far away as Saffron Walden (Essex mate, in case you were wondering...) and the furthest away band I have ever seen from the Rec, Wry from Brazil. Roy and his manager has done us proud!

Wry

Kicking off with 'Bad Bad Bad' and 'Powerless' it didn't take long for Wry, from Brazil, vis Shoreditch, London to stamp their authority on the crowd. Power riffs that reminded me of 1970 + 1980's influences like the 2 album wonders Van Halen with some early 90's Madchester loose fit guitar sounds fighting to come to the fore. '77:05', 'New Radio Station' and my favourite 'Speedfreak' (beat only in my mind by H500's Ace of Spades later in the night), then 'Sabrina'. The last track 'Good Girls Go' completed a hedonistic set that will stick in the mind for sometime.
Wry headlined a 15-gig 'Love and Hate you Brazil' tour summer 2003 and then decided to move this side of the pond. An album is available on Brazil's Monstro records label called 'heart-experience'. Reckless Management are now looking after the band in the south of England, working hard to bring Wry to a wider public.

Wry are Mars (vox + guitar), Bizar (drums), Chokito and Lou (Guitar/Bass)

Depon Eye

Heres the intro.... It must be Depon Eye! A welcome return to the 'rec for Roy and the lads. Thanks deserved for delivering tonights Rock Showcase. Like missionaries spreading a rock gospel, Depon Eye make some more converts (from the church of Korn, Blink and Linkin) every visit to the Rec'. There were a few DeponEye T-Shirts in the crowd to urge the lads on. Kicking off with 'The Vampire Song' and 'Bring Me Down', Roy was not shy to tout the British Rock credentials. The classics 'Broken' and 'Anger Management 101' followed then by Tick Tock, The 6 P's, Unwanted and Curtain Call. Insane FM finished off the set nicely.

Houston 500

On the cusp of a major recording deal and deservadly so, Houston 500 certainly looked the part. Full of attitude, Essex swagger, a band uniform and some diverse rock influences, H500 is a band to watch for 2004. They went down a storm at Manchesters InTheCity 2003 and have a 3 track single 'Queen of the Crackwhores' on London-based Global Warming Records mastered at Abbey Road Studios. They have received some rave reviews and comment in Logo, Grassroots Exchange, Unsigned Central, The Fly, UK Bands and Drowned in Sound mags and fanzines.
Dependance Day and Head Down kicked off the set, a spikey tightly written couple of tracks. 'Break it in', 'Arrested' and 'Monster' all got plenty of punters into the mosh pit. No takers for the guy asking for some Korn tracks, these Essex blokes don't do covers, this is real Rock and Roll! ' The Outside', 'Liar Liar', the single 'Queen of the Crackwhores' "buy it for Xmas no 1" , and 'Reborn' took us to an unbelievable encore, Motorheads 'Ace of Spades'.

H 500. TonySmith Photography. Houston500 Houston 500 are promoting 'Queen of the Crackwhores,' their debut single, which also features two b-side tracks. The single has been recorded by London-based Global Warming Records will be available in record shops nationally via Pinnacle Distribution on December 1st. A new line of H500 t-shirts will be sold at the gig as well. 2003 has been a successful year for Houston 500 following their victory at the Cambridge band competition in March. The band appeared again in Cambridge at the Strawberry Fair in June followed by Peterborough's Willow Festival in July. They were showcased to the music industry at In The City in Manchester, nationally broadcast on both radio2XS and Storm Radio, signed to a long-term management contract with Tom O'Connor and a 2-album recording deal with Global Warming Records in September. The band's debut single was mastered in October at famed Abbey Road Studios, London where countless rock 'n' roll classic albums have been recorded. November has seen the band break America on their own budget with a string of shows, promotional events and FM radio airplay in Arizona followed by two weeks in the UK recording their complete album, to be released Q1 2004. Music lawyer Peter Dyson, whose clients include the Management of artists Coldplay and Elbow, now represents the band for all things legal; National Press and PR is handled by Pippa Hall of Monkey Business PR, who has also represented Paul Weller, The Beautiful South and Ocean Colour Scene; Radio Promotion is handled by Stuart Emery, whose clients include Metallica, The Black Crowes, Robert Plant as well as other iternational artists; and Photographers Stuart Nicholls from rock archives and Stephen Dexter - also from Saffron Walden, complete the formidable team that now surrounds the band. All eyes are on 2004 as the industry reaction to Houston 500 has been very promising, crossing the industry circles via word of mouth - despite the band not having a release to their name. Recent press includes new music magazines Logo, Grassroots Exchange, Unsigned Central, The Fly, UK Bands and Drowned in Sound plus a massive result: a feature in the September A&R column of Radio 1 DJ and new music champion Steve Lamacq. In addition to all of this, Cambridge's own 107.9 Star FM have had the band in for interviews on Neil Jones rock show which airs every Sunday evening. This should be a fantastic night at The Rec in Northwich, you won't want to miss it! Further information about the band can be found at the bands' website: http://www.H500.net Also appearing are Wry, a four-piece Brazilian band who released the album 'heart experience' on Monstro records in Brazil in late 2001, then moved to the UK where based in London they seek a record deal. The band were a huge hit at In The City this year and have had strong press in every fanzine you could name. Their legacy airs weekly in Brazil on MTV and it's only a matter of time before they break the UK
