Click here to view a contact sheet of images from the gig | Naked Ape Was the 6 hour journey from Brighton and Hove worth it? Everyone seemed to think so! So well rehearsed and effortlessly polished 'Naked Ape' really had the mosh pit moving. Truly Rebels without a Pause, unswerving guitar riffs and filling every inch of the stage. Opening with Judas and The Answer, what great opening shots. Some vintage guitar riffs in there and quality songwriting underpinned the rest of the tracks, Chapass, Growing Down, Swating Fish and my favourite 'Blissfully Unaware'. Closing with 'Learner' yet another track from the bands current CD, the crowd definately were left wanting more. Many keen to touch the band, shake a paw! NakedApe are Lee Lacovou on vocals, Gerald Walton + Chris Slade on Guitar, Bin on Bass and James Eldridge filling in temporarily on drums. Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) is where this Brighton band formed. They've come a long way including Radio 1 Festival gigs in Brighton, gigs at Brighton Rocks, Peterborough Willow Festival and around the UK. For the EP, NakedApe worked with Producers Mark Flannery and Nick Southwood (U2, Skid Row, Black Sabbath). Naked ape have been confirmed as a support act for Richie Kotzen in late Nov 2003. For Naked Ape, the futures bright. Naked Ape live Feb 2004 |

When they hit the stage like a steamroller crushing a cashew nut, the rock had really started. All tracks were in English, I don't know if Norwegian works as well with metal as German does! No stranger to leaving his kit, the dreadlocked drummer moved his cymbals around the stage like a zombie on H, mad but so likeable! No tributes or classics here, just pure original songs in the vein of Queens of The Stone age meets The Scorpions. Quite different and one of the most unusual bands from BANNED! for sometime. Get us more! And soon! More Rock. |
The BANNED! network is based in Northwich and can be contacted via their website. Coming Soon: Six Ways Sunday, Djevara, Headpress, Brothers With Different Mothers and the return of Ocea.
