Forthcoming gigs at the Gladstone Club :-
Nov 7th

An unusual gig at the Rec at the No2 bar, but great atmosphere as the place was filled, nice and sweaty with everyone getting into the night. First up EvoDevo, the new name for Mantreaux, which was the new name for Northwich band Mantra. Next up Headwire who have been treading the boards for over 2 years now, writing new songs, building fans, last up the excellent Guilty Party.

Ev0-Dev0

Filling in at short notice for The Great Sugaro, Evo Devo, new name, 2/3rds of Northwich band Mantra took the opening slot like veterens. the addition of Jon Kerr on vocals had added a new mature outlook to the band and he is doubtlessly making his contributions with writing of new material.
The set opened with Fall and Right Reasons. Both totally new tracks and excelently executed considering the lineup has only been around a couple of months. Star in my life, Speak, The way to a mans heart (is through his chest) and Claustrophobia Submarine cam next. The Black Lace classic Superman came next (covers have somehow crept into the Ev0Dev0 sets of late...). Swirl rounded off a great set, quite a bit of which can now be found on Evo-Devos new 5 track EP Molotov Cocktail. I didn't spot anyone selling any on the night which was an opportunity lost IMHO.
ED are Jon Kerr on lead vocals, Dave Wimbush on Drums, Pete Ling (guitar) and Scott Humphrey on bass.

Headwire

Great powerpop from Headwire, youthful and versatile as ever - + some new tracks too! No mistaking lead and bass guitar, in contrasting colours as usual, the set kicked off with Vein and Rockshow. Many of the crowd were miming along with I'll be there, Confused, Better 18, Lonely and Builder. The cover Brown Eyed Girl, sweet + touching went down a storm. Even caught myself humming along, a brilliant choice of cover, not too Kitch, but everyone knows it - even if they don't think they do!.
Perfect day and Now You're Gone concluded a great set which unfortunately couldn't have an encore.

More Head wire from May 2003.

Guilty Party

A lot of the crowd had left tired after the 1st 2 bands of the night leaving GP with a few less moshers than usual. No lack of the usual energy or the sharp dressed man style of Senior Chivez on guitar. Ska-Core attitude gave us Break the Silence, Digress and Shut Up to kick off the set in GP style. Lots of movement, lots of style. Never far from wanting to slip into Ska, The Cause, Act your Anger, The Hard Times, Somethings wrong and Let it Burn provided the filling in the set. No more Lies and Manifest Destiny rounded off a brilliant night as we have grown to expect from Guilty Party.
Guilty Party are Eddie on Vocals, Senior Chivez on Backing Vocals and guitar, quiet Ben on Bass/Backing Vocals and big Barney on Drums.
There are plans for an EP (The Cause),in November 2003, checkout their website: www.guilty-party.co.uk for the latest info. when it's out, remember, part with the cash and buy one. Support your local
