Rock and polished metalcore was on the bill tonight. Burnleys Depon Eye fresh from a gig in Brixton (The Telegraph), Wirral guitarheads Redbank and finally all the way from Cudworth, Barnsley, South Yorks, the increadable P>S>P. You fools have been asking for metal, it was served up tonight!

Redbank

Were these guys tuning up, jammin' or soundchecking with a pint in one hand and a tab in the other? Well they eventually got started in their quirky style and got the crowd to their feet. Kicking off with Draw Booty, Redbank quickley moved into 'Tetchy' with only a slight ripple of applause from the 180 or so crowd. 3b4 and Pets allowed Redbanks many guitars to make their mark. Not quite the full metal jacket the crowd were hear to see, more punk improv'.
Mersey musicians Redbank have been busy though, almost regulars at the Helsby MunkyFest (no longer moonlighting as 'Anna's Friends') and influenced by the likes of Jesus Lizard, Minutemen, Archers of Loaf, Rex, Hot Water Music and Slint, Red Bank have managed a few more appearances on Keith Records compilations.
Keep an eye out for more releases and North West gigs from Redbank in the coming year. Checkout their website at www.simplyredbank.freeserve.co.uk for the latest info.

Depon Eye

Roy, Micky, Pete + Alex bounced onto the stage with no shortage of rock attitude. Straight from a gig at The Telegraph in Brixton, London (England that is, if you are reading this from across the pond!). The set kicked off with Broken, an old DE favourite, then into Anger Management 101 and Tick Tock (both due to be recorded mid October 2003). The 6 P's, Change The Record (dedicated to crap agents everywhere), Unwanted (available on CD single together with Curtain Call + Everytime on Done Avin'it Music). Belting out Out til 3 and Insane FM. Roy and the lads style and dedication shone through.

P>S>P (PurpleStickyPunch)

To round off the night, Barnsley based PSP, metalcore, hatecore, hardcore, try to pigion hole them if you dare... Ryan on vocals, at 1st glance looking like 'Mr Sheffield' yep Jarvis on acid, Rik, gyrating his Bass guitar right around the stage, Gaffer knocking out the riffs and Jason looking like trailer trash in his peaked cap knocking sh** out of those skins. All worthy of the praise heaped upon them by Rocksound , Fracture, HBM (Here Be Monsters) and the rest.
The set indeed lurched between many styles, melody and screetching vocal, to the trained eye, there is more beneath the surface, stolen Bass lines from New order, guitar foundations from Medulla Nocte - these guys have raided all sorts of places to assemble their sound. The 30 minute set covered quite recent material and included 'Can we', 'Death M', Process and to finish, 'Deadly Art'.
Checkout the CD EP (demo of the month winner) - containing Same old , Too fine line. Sometimes refered to as The Thinking Mans Hardcore band. Don't waste time thinkin, just enjoy! Cross the pennines again lads!
